Israel's Singing Girls: Women's Poetry and Religious Identity in Victorian England
This book argues that nineteenth-century British women poets used their poetry as a site for theological inquiry. Focusing on how Anglo-Jewish and Anglican women use the Hebrew Bible (or Christian Old Testament) in poetry, the author argues that women used poetry to revise and challenge dominant interpretations of their respective religious traditions.
