Research project

Sanctifying Ordinary Work: Catholic Laywomen and the Service Economy

This project focuses on the economic activity of the women of Opus Dei, a lay organization critical to the shaping of the post-Vatican II Catholicism. Characterized by intense devotion to the Virgin Mary and an emphasis on Christian service as the model for work, Opus Dei combines an explicit engagement with business and service employment for men and women with a sacred plan for family life as a path to holiness.
